System explanation

Aspicore GSM Tracker is a software product, which  runs in a Symbian smartphone. Its purpose is to periodically send the phone location coordinates to a server.

You can use Aspicore GSM Tracker to build up a location tracking system. The product can be used e.g. for vehicle location tracking for business purposes.

Complete location tracking system is built up of a server and several mobile clients. Each mobile client is a smartphone, which can be carried by a person or installed into a vehicle. The server runs in a central computer (e.g. a PC) either within your premises or at a service provider.

Each client consists of a Symbian smartphone (e.g. Nokia E50), Aspicore GSM Tracker software installed into the phone (40 euros per license) and a Bluetooth GPS receiver (cost below 100 euros). If there is an internal GPS chip within the phone, then you do not need an external Bluetooth GPS receiver.

The server system is usually connected to the Internet with a fixed line and a public IP address. There are several possibilities to set up the server part. It can be a third-party fleet management system or an online service provided by one of our partners or you can build it yourself. If you want to have your own tracking server, we have some components and implementation examples available, some even with source code, but we ourselves have not got a complete server system ready to be sold.

If you are using network cell based positioning, the Bluetooth GPS receiver is not required at the client. Just the smartphone together with Aspicore GSM Tracker software suffice. In this case, instead of accurate location coordinates, our software periodically sends phone's current cell information to the server. Server can make an estimate of the phone's location based on the current cell information and a cell location database.

It is possible to use Aspicore GSM Tracker without a server system, if you use text messages. You can inquire the current location of the phone running Aspicore GSM Tracker from another permitted phone. You can also program Aspicore GSM Tracker to send periodically its current location text message.
